A little blue…
I usually post pictures of cardinals in the snow, but this time how about a blue jay.
I just love to watch all of the bird activity around our house!
Well, it isn’t all just birds….
The deer have finally started making more of an appearance again with the snow on the ground & some colder temperatures.
I captured pictures of these deer from my office window.
Speaking of windows, we have so many of them (I AM going to hire a window washer this year!) …oh wait, that isn’t what I was going to say…
but with all of these windows, we constantly have birds flying into them. We do have a lot of fatalities, but hubby is also very good about saving many.
For instance, this chickadee….
It flew into the living room window…hubby went out and held it & kept it warm until it finally flew off.
We have had 2 grouse (which are BIG birds) fly into the windows & kill themselves. I am still surprised none have ended up in the house.
Well, they actually have, but after hubby cleaned them & grilled them! YEP….does that make us redneck or what? lol..
Hey, it’s not roadkill….grouse breast is delicious & it wasn’t like he went out & killed them. We just put them to good use after they died.
Hubby said he is going to go to a surplus store & buy a bunch of windows & put them all through the yard! lol…Still not a whole lot of snow here.
Yesterday was a gorgeous day. It got up to about 36 degrees. The sun was shining. I actually had to shed my coat when I was out doing my errands!
It is amazing how several years ago back when I lived in Oklahoma, I would have thought someone crazy to go without a coat in 36 degree weather! lol..
here’s a couple of pictures I took of the sky the other night. I thought the clouds were so pretty.
I have a recipe to share with you. Hubby & I both just absolutely loved this….and they are so easy & have few ingredients!
Puff Pastry Chicken Bundles
- Prep: 15 min. Bake: 20 min.
- Yield: 4 Servings
15 20 35
Ingredients
- 4 chicken tenderloins
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup spinach and artichoke cream cheese spread*
- 4 slices Muenster cheese, halved
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
Directions
- Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper; set aside. On a lightly floured surface, roll puff pastry into a 14-in. square. Cut into four squares.
- Spoon 2 tablespoons cream cheese into the center of each square; top with Muenster cheese and chicken.
- Whisk egg and water; lightly brush over edges. Bring opposite corners of pastry over each bundle; pinch seams to seal. Place seam side down on a greased baking sheet; brush with remaining egg mixture.
- Bake at 400° for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown. Yield: 4 servings.
*I couldn’t find the spinach/artichoke cream cheese spread, so I used Garden Vegetable.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

I bet you’re surprised to see me over here lol! I came to read a post about another blogging buddy that has had health issues and thought I might as well check out your posts too.
Great pics of the blue jays and the clouds. Are you sure Mike wasn’t looking down at that Chickadee thinking “chicken nugget”? That is TOO fuuny about cooking the other birds that decided to go to bird Heaven on your windows. Y’all need to video tape the cooked meal and send it in to the Windex company lol! Almost the weekend… yipee – y’all have a good one… hugs! <3
beautiful pictures of the bluejay and love the chickadee pic!!! made me laugh. you are sooo redneck! hahaha no man, at least you didn’t kill them; they did it themselves…. the poor birds….sigh. we were hoping to have some snow today. nope. poor isla hasn’t seen snow since she was like 6months old. it’s just cold here. ok gotta sleep!

The recipe sounds delish. It makes me feel so… lonely to know that I would have to travel 55 miles to get spinach and artichoke cream cheese spread or any kind or Muenster cheese.
When I lived in the house I loved, a hawk flew into the bedroom window and broke it. There were hawk feathers all embedded in the screen but the hawk must have survived. We saw no sign of him.
Oh I don’t blame you for making a meal of the grouse…never let a good meal go to waste!
Wow, what fantastic photos Dori Sue! Gorgeous up there..and ha..love how the old cold is now not so bad
..aww..how precious of hubby helping the babies..too much..* ..That recipe sounds delish…so nice to see you…hope you won’t stay away toooo long
…take good care…hugs and love…Lee
These are beautiful shots … the shot of the Blue Jay is a money one, the sky is really nice. I find myself always looking for shots like that. Last year I held a java sparrow in my hand, and most recently a baby dove that I tried to nurse to health…he died. It’s an amazing feeling holding and having the trust of a wild bird.
