  • I hope you all had a great weekend.  Ours was pretty laid back. Saturday we just puttered around the house. Hubby did his normal cleaning the snow off of the driveway & decks and filling up the birdfeeders and putting corn out for the deer.
I did some housework and finished working my jigsaw puzzle.

Yesterday was football of course!  BIG game for us with Green Bay playing Chicago!  We went to a local place called Milwaukee Burger Co. to watch the game. They had a specialty burger in honor of the game called the Bear Slayer Burger...yes, there was a real bear patty on it (along with a regular beef patty too!)  Of course, I had to get it!

They pass out free jello shots every time the Packers score :)

This table next to us was building a pyramid out of their empty jello shots containers...

haha...fun time and of course, we won!!!

We then came on home & cheered for Pittsburgh...which luckily, they won...but not after the Jets gave a good fight in the second half.
Pittsburgh has always been a favorite team of hubby's. Now it should be exciting for the Superbowl...he will be cheering for them & I of course, will be cheering for the Packers.

Gotta share this funny with you that I got in an email...

This is why men should NOT take phone messages....

    haha!!! LOVE it!

    Y'all have a good day & a wonderful week.

  • Pocket Reduction Surgery

Several of you have asked what this oral surgery is that I will be having done, (the end of Feb.)  so here is an explanation.

First, I have had "pockets" that have to be probed (measured) each time I go in for my cleanings (every 3 months). They have just continued to get deeper, thus making it harder to remove bacteria and causing bone loss.
We tried a nonsurgical treatment first called "Scaling", but unfortunately it did not work.

So that is what now brings us to the pocket reduction surgery...
The gum is separated from the tooth. It is lifted and rolled back, creating a "gum flap"
Tartar is then removed from the root.
The surgeon also removes diseased gum tissue.
If needed, the bone is smoothed and reshaped.
The gum flap is then sewn shut in a position that reduces pocket depth.
Once the gum  is healed, the stitches will be removed.

We will do the right side first. My gums will be numbed. I will also be given something for pain afterwards. Then after the stitches are removed & all is healed, we will do the left side.

I am NOT looking forward to it! But it does need to be done. This just makes the pockets easier to maintain. They will never go away. Then we just hope that we can maintain them & that they don't get worse.
I will still have to continue to go every 3 mos. for cleanings.

  • Daughter's Apartment...

Wanted to show you a glimpse of daughter's apartment and her furnishings that she has picked up from the thrift stores.

We all can remember how exciting it was to set up our own first place.
I remember using cable spools & milk crates for tables and pillows or bean bag chairs for seating.
Daughter is off to a lot better start that I was when I first moved out!

Daughter loves "retro"...or old or just unique. She also loves randomness & odd matched things.
So, this may not be your style...but it is all hers :)

This was actually taken the day that she picked up her keys..I just wanted to show you the neat arched doorways.

This is the chair that she got at Goodwill for $20.! It is in very good condition.

the desk she got also at goodwill for a few bucks!

and this is the dining room table she also got for $2.99

Notice that all 3 of the chairs are mismatched...she loves that! she bought them all separately at different thrift stores.

She loves her owl napkin holder that her nana passed on to her. We had this when I was growing up!

    her itty bitty bathroom

I don't know why I didn't get any better pictures of her bedroom...probably because it was a mess as we piled stuff on the bed after shopping.
She just bought this scarf  for her window.

And her latest find that she just got yesterday...her 70's era couch...

That end table and lamp also came from the thrift store. We also had an end table like that when I was a kid!

She is proud...it's good to have your own space :)
I am proud of her...she has done well.
She furnished her apartment for around $200.00!

  • I had my appointment at the Periodontist this morning & I for sure have to have the surgery on my gums. It will be done in 2 stages. The first is scheduled for the end of February & they will do the right side. Then a few weeks later the left side will be done.

The rest of the day I spent with daughter.  She found a few more things at the thrift store, including a couch, so now her apartment is furnished!  I helped her hang a few things on the walls. She has it fixed up really cute. It is definitely her own style!
She ate dinner with us tonight & hung out afterward to watch American Idol with us. I was pleasantly surprised with the new judges & the show tonight. I wasn't sure if I was even going to watch it, but after tonight I think that I will continue.

It is going to be very cold the next couple of days. Tomorrow the low is suppose to be -20.  We are under wind chill advisories until Friday morning...wind chills of -25 to -30 are expected! brrrr
I will run my errands in the morning & then get home & stay inside the next couple of days!

The full moon has been really pretty the last 2 days. I got a couple of pictures of it rising last night & of it setting this morning...The pictures never are as good as what you are seeing though...

    Goodnight...

  • Strep Throat?

Daughter got a call from her doctor today. Remember, she went in because she had that mysterious rash appear...well, they did a swab test for strep throat that day but it showed negative. They did send cultures out to be tested though & they came back as positive today.  Daughter never felt sick. Never ran a fever, which the doctor was surprised at back when she was in to see her. She just developed this rash overnight, which the doctor said is normal with such an infection.
We both have had strep throat many times...and we have always known it when we did. I am really surprised over this news, but also glad that the rash can now be explained.  The rash, by the way is just about gone. Strange, isn't it!

  • Me bad...

Yeah, I missed a day in posting! I actually was on here & going to post, but my connection was super slow, so I decided to visit your pages instead .
My hubby was quick to point out that I blew my resolution! lol. Oh well, such is life...that is why I usually don't even make them!
But you have to admit, I have done really well & I will continue to try to keep it up.

Yesterday, we finally went out & bought us a new mattress. When daughter moved out, we gave her the Queen set that was in the guest room. We have a king pillow top that is still in decent shape, but we have been wanting to upgrade for a while now, so we will put our old one in the guest room and the new one we got in our room. It is nice too. We got a Serta Perfect Day. It sure was comfy in the store! They will deliver it next week.
Hubby also got his gun safe. Or bought one...that also will be delivered next week.

It was another snowy, dreary day here today. We probably got another 3 or 4" of new snow. I really wanted to get out the snowshoes & do another walk, but I never did. I spent my day doing laundry, chores & errands instead. Oh well, maybe tomorrow!
I will post a few pictures that I took Saturday when I went out on my walk. Nothing spectacular, but you can get a glimpse of our property....

The next few pictures were actually on my camera from December 30! I just haven't taken or uploaded any other pictures since then.

The goldfinches really like my new feeder that hubby gave me for Christmas.

    a grouse

    a couple of doves

I have chicken & veggies in the crockpot, so need to go & see what else I need to make with it for our dinner.

I am also excited to have a new House on tonight and also I want to check out that new lawyer show with Kathy Bates.
    Y'all have a good evening.

  • Doing this quick post during half time. Been watching some exciting football today. First Pittsburgh and now Green Bay!

I actually got to get out & try my new snowshoes today! I just did walked around the house & the property, but let me tell you, what a workout!  Of course, that comes from someone whose most exercise here lately is trying to squeeze into her too tight jeans!
I went out to the field behind us & oh my, was that snow deep! Even in my snowshoes, it came up above my knees!

The game camera caught me in the act...

Of course, this area wasn't bad at all as the deer keep it pretty well packed down!

It actually ended up being a pretty day after all. It got all the way up to 17 & the sun was shining!

Hubby got his workout too by plowing the driveway, the walks & the blowing off the deck & porch.

    OK..the game is back on!

    Go Green Bay!!!

  • It is snowing & foggy here, so it is interfering with my satellite connection...it took me forever to just get this site loaded...now I will be lucky to even get this submitted .

Just  keeping up with my promise of trying to get over here every day. I was hoping to read some posts tonight, but that won't be happening with this slow connection.

Daughter got her car back today, which means I got mine back!!!
Her rash is no better. It has now spread to her feet. Poor thing...from feet to scalp. The pills haven't really helped with the itching much. The Aveeno bath soak & cream is helping her sooth it some.
She has to work tomorrow, so she is really hoping that it doesn't spread to her face overnight.
I really hate it that there is nothing that I can do to help her.

I was hoping to get the new snowshoes out tomorrow & get out to play, but the winds are suppose to be horrid & the temps below zero, so think that we will wait until maybe Sunday.
Tomorrow will be a good day to stay in & watch football & I am going to make a pot of Taco soup.

Goodnight Xanga land.....I hope I have a connection tomorrow to come by & visit you all.

    Have a great weekend.

  • Evidently daughter takes after me in the quirky, zany. weird injuries & health problems.
Yesterday she woke up with a rash from her belly to her neck. She first thought that maybe it was a heat rash, but it never got any better as the day progressed & in fact, continued to get worse.
This morning, she said it was now from her ankles & up into her scalp.
No, she hasn't used any new products such as detergents, lotions, soaps, etc. No, she didn't eat anything different.
We got her in to the doctor this afternoon. The doctor was surprised that she hadn't been running a temperature as she said she probably just had some viral infection, which caused the rash? She tested her for strep, which was negative.  She told her that she would probably have it another couple of days and then start peeling. She gave her a prescription for a pill to take 3 times a day for the itching & told her to take Benadryl and use a hydracortizone cream on it.
I think she is allergic to her new apartment!
Who knows...I guess this zanyness just runs in our family!

  • Ultrasound results

May be TMI for some of you...but some of my regular readers are wanting to know the results...

Today was the day of my ultrasound. They did find a spot on my right breast which they will now go in & do a biopsy on Jan. 26, which is the earliest since the Doctor is on vacation starting Friday.
They also were a bit concerned with some of the tissue on the left breast, so they sent me back to get a few more x-rays on them, but after viewing them, decided that I would just need to come back in for another mammogram and another ultrasound in 6 months. So, I am just going to continue to think positive and maybe this will just end up being a cyst, which means nothing at all.

Hubby & I are going out to our favorite little restaurant tonight for a nice, quiet dinner. I am looking forward to that!

Daughter is off tomorrow, so I will get my car to go get some groceries & then hope that hers will be ready either tomorrow or Friday. I'm ready to get mine back!

I've been without internet off & on the last couple of days, which is so frustrating! But I have been working even harder on tagging all of my photos on my computer and trying to get them all organized. I am stumbling onto a lot of memories!  Here is one that I came across from 1995 of me, hubby & daughter. It was in the backyard of the first home that we actually owned. It backed up to a wooded area, which of course, we loved.

Look at all of those trees!  and yes, lol at daughter...munching away on something!
